In recent years, biomass has become one kind of main fuel sources in many countries. It can be made into biogas, liquid fuel and most widely applied, solid fuel. For making solid biomass fuel, there are 2 choices: biomass pellet and biomass briquette. But which type can I make? Or which kind of machine do I need?

Biomass pellet machine or briquette machine?

To know whether to choose biomass pellet machine or biomass briquette machine, first let’s see their differences.

• Biomass pellet machine can make biomass raw material powder into cylindrical sticks with 2-12mm diameter. The biomass pellets can burn fully for home or boilers because of their small volume. They are also widely used for horse bedding and power generation.
• Biomass briquette machine is used to make powdery biomass into large diameter sticks (with or without central hole). The briquettes can be round, square or hexagon shapes as required by customers. Usually briquettes are used for BBQ, heating boiler or also electricity generation.

Which one to choose?

1. To choose the proper machine for your biomass, first you need to know your own requirements or market demand: do you want to make biofuel for sale, or for own use? What will your biofuel used for?

If you just want to make solid biofuel for heating or sell to people who need home use cooking/heating fuel for the pellet stove, a small biomass pellet machine is OK. If you want to produce fuel for industrial use, for example, power generation or central boiler, the large biomass pellet machine with ring die or the mechanical stamping biomass briquette machine (which can make both pellets and briquettes) is a good choice.

If you want to make fuel that can be used for BBQ, the screw type biomass briquette machine is ideal. The briquettes manufactured by this machine can not only be used directly, but also can be made into charcoal briquettes to sell at a higher price!

2. To choose the machine, you also need to consider your raw material.

This means the material characteristics. For processing straw, both can do, but pellet machine performs much better. And for different kinds of wood materials, the pellet machines are also different.
